A few words about the rival: Cercle Brugge
Wisła Kraków is just one step away from reaching the UEFA Conference League playoffs. Their opponent will be Cercle Brugge, a Belgian club based in Bruges. We invite you to briefly familiarize yourself with the profiles of our opponents.
Cercle normally plays at the Jan Breydel Stadion, sharing a home with their arch-rivals Club Brugge. Their collection of titles is significantly lower than their neighbor's, boasting three Belgian championship trophies dating back to before World War II, and two Belgian Cups, the last of which was won in the 1980s.
Founded in 1899, Cercle Brugge is celebrating 125 years of existence. It's worth noting that their history, dating back to the 19th century, has rarely been a bed of roses, and the club has often faced adversity. It's safe to say that the Black and Greens entered a new era in 2017. That's when AS Monaco took over ownership of the then-First Division club, rebuilding it and helping it emerge from its difficult situation.
The results were not long in coming. In 2018, Cercle took first place in the Belgian top flight, returning with a bang to the national elite. Embracing a new footballing philosophy, the Bruges team relies primarily on young and talented players, often acquired from Red Bull teams. The dynamic style of play developed over recent seasons allowed our opponents to finish fourth in the league table and return to European competition after a long hiatus.
