A page from the Wisła calendar: Anniversary of Adam Michel's birth
88 years ago - on July 25, 1936 - Adam Michel, a Wisła player from 1949 to 1963, was born.
Adam Michel was born in Kraków on July 25, 1936. Like many boys from the town near Wawel, Michel loved playing football in the Błonia and Planty Parks. It was during one of these backyard games that he caught the eye of Edward Szczerbiński, the coach of Wisła's junior teams. After a little persuasion, Michel joined the Sports Association in 1949. After several years of training and successful appearances for the junior and reserve teams, Michel was promoted to the first team in 1955. He made his debut under coach Mieczysław Gracz on June 5, 1955, when the rejuvenated Kraków team sensationally defeated Ruch Chorzów 6-2.
Michel reached the peak of his footballing form at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, when he consistently excelled as a Wisła player. This resulted in call-ups to the Polish national team, where he wore the White Eagle on three occasions.
Adam Michel played in midfield, where he performed well in both attacking and defensive roles. He was characterized by considerable intelligence in play, able to distribute the ball efficiently with accurate passes. Michel played 150 official matches for the Wisła first team, scoring one goal. He retired from football in 1963. He graduated from the AGH University of Science and Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked as a coach in cities such as Miechów, Słomniki, Wieliczka, and Kraków.
Adam Michel died in 1990 and is buried at the Batowice Cemetery.
