111 years ago the legionary epic began.
The Legions' epic journey began 111 years ago. Early in the morning of August 6, 1914, the First Cadre Company—the nucleus of the future Polish Legions—embarked. Józef Piłsudski's soldiers marched into battle from Wisła Kraków's stadium, the Oleandry Sports Park. Many Polish athletes fought in the Legions' ranks, fulfilling the patriotic and independence ideals of the Sports Society.
Today we remember that Poland's path to independence began at the Wisła stadium!
