Jop: Górnik has a lot of advantages
The R22 players had little time to work after their cup match. On Sunday, they face Górnik Łęczna in the league. What did coach Mariusz Jop say before the clash?
Medical report updated. The following players will not play:
- Michał Żyro - rehabilitates his knee after surgery;
- Igor Sapała and Eneko Satrustegi - train individually;
- David Junca introduced to training with the team.
Angel Rodado and Eneko Satrustegi are suspended due to yellow cards.
At the beginning of the conference, we returned for a moment to the Polish Cup draw and to the memories that coach Mariusz Jop had with Widzew.
"It was a long time ago, over twenty years ago I played there. There were no opponents from outside the Ekstraklasa anymore; everyone was from the top division. Widzew is a team that is certainly very well organized after the coaching change. They have their own style, and it's great that such a classic is returning to Kraków," he began.
On Thursday evening, the Kraków team advanced to the Polish Cup quarterfinals. Was the style of play we witnessed the kind of game that should characterize the team coached by Mariusz Jop?
"I think that when you score four goals, that's what football is all about – scoring them. Being effective, looking for duels, dribbling, being proactive. These were also things we wanted to implement, and they worked well a few times. Of course, it's important to keep it going as long as possible. I mean the entire match, because there are also phases when you have to drop a little deeper. Defending in a low defense for a while, and that's quite normal. Generally, this is a way of playing that I personally like," he said.
The team from Łęczna had more rest, as their rivals are no longer competing in the Polish Cup, and their league match was postponed.
"I think playing every three days is natural for a footballer. I've been in this situation many times myself and never experienced any physical problems. The question is, what did Górnik Łęczna do during this time? We don't know. However, I assume there won't be any major problems in this regard. Besides, there are always five players available for substitutions, waiting for a chance and who can help maintain the intensity of the game. I'm not afraid of that," he noted.
"I agree that coach Mamrot has put this team together. They're playing very solid defensively. They're also able to switch defenses throughout the match, going from 1-5-4-1 to 1-4-1-4-1. They're flexible, but they also have moments when they're not afraid to build up. You can see they know what they want to do. Certain things are repetitive. They're also a very tall team, dangerous from set pieces. They have a lot of these qualities. And they're definitely a good opponent," he complimented.
Can we expect any changes to the White Star's starting lineup in Sunday's match?
"Rodado will definitely not play... And as for other details, I wouldn't – as always – want to make things easier for the opponent. I wouldn't want to give away information. Let them decide how we'll play," he replied. Kamil Broda put in a good performance in the cup match. Will he be in the starting lineup again this time? I can confirm that Kamil played a good match, but the players haven't received any information from me yet about who will be number one, so I'd like to tell them that personally," he noted.
Wisła will play in front of a limited crowd. How does the coach feel about the Polish Football Association's ruling?
"I can only regret that this situation exists, because as a coach, I think all the players are doing everything they can to attract fans to the stadium. It's a shame that not everyone who could come to this match will be able to do so. It's inconvenient for us. It's not beneficial for the club either, but oh well, it's a decision, and I have no influence on it. Therefore, I focus on the issues that concern me as a coach," concluded coach Mariusz Jop.
