One Goal: #KATWIS Match Preview

Today, the stadium on Bukowa Street will host a match from the 33rd round of the Fortuna 1 Liga. Wisła Kraków will face GKS Katowice away. This match promises to be a highly emotional one, as the White Star is battling for a play-off spot in the Ekstraklasa.

This will be a key matchup for the top half of the table. GKS Katowice sits in third place with two rounds of fixtures remaining in the regular season and still has a chance of direct promotion. They are currently six points behind second-placed Arka. Katowice fans are hoping for a scenario where the Śląsk team earns all three points against Wisła, and Arka loses the Tricity derby. The gap in the table would then be reduced to just three points, with a head-to-head clash scheduled for the final round. Rafał Górak's side therefore have plenty to play for.

For Wisła Kraków, this will likely be the most important match of the league campaign. After their recent defeat to league leaders Lechia Gdańsk, the Wawel-based team has slipped to 7th place, which no longer guarantees a spot in the playoffs. To avoid falling behind, the White Star needs a perfect set of victories by the end of the season. Next week, GKS Tychy and Górnik Łęczna will face each other – if the status quo after this round remains unchanged, one of these teams will surely drop points. This will open up a chance for Wisła to reach the playoffs, but a win in the upcoming match is necessary to achieve this goal.

The all-time record of Wisła Kraków and GieKS Kraków is 33 wins, 17 draws, and 12 wins for the Yellow-Dark Green-Black. The rivalry between these two clubs dates back to the 1960s. In their last match in November, the fans gathered at the Reymonta Stadium witnessed quite a thrilling experience. Wisła Kraków trailed until the 97th minute, only to take a 3-2 lead with goals from Gogół and Baena.

We'll head to Katowice for the return leg with a weakened defensive line. Bartosz Jaroch has been ruled out with a muscle injury, while David Juncà and Joseph Colley will be sidelined due to red cards. Coach Albert Rudé's team will face important personnel decisions, and the reserve players will need to perform at their best. This will be essential to continue their fight for a return to the Ekstraklasa.

Together to win!
