Jania: Now it's time to work
The U-19 team demonstrated their excellent form once again this season in Saturday's match. Wisła defeated Legia Warsaw 3-2 at home, with Maciej Jania scoring one of the goals for the White Star. The Kraków captain summed up the match in a short interview.
The Wisła Kraków U-19 team faced an extremely difficult challenge in Saturday's match against Legia Warsaw, the leaders of the U-19 Central Junior League. The Kraków team bravely challenged their opponents and ultimately dominated the match, defeating the Warsaw team 3-2 thanks to goals from Szymon Kawała, Maciej Jania, and Dawid Gap. As the second goal scorer recalls, the Kraków team was highly motivated to secure all three points and put their opponents to shame.
"I think we performed well in the first half in terms of finishing, although we could have scored more goals because we had opportunities. We came out mentally charged for the second half. The coach told us during the break in the locker room that without commitment we wouldn't win this match, so in the second half we attacked our opponent without hesitation, creating further attacks, and sealed our performance with success."
The hosts showed great form in this match, but the visitors also continued to attack. Did they manage to surprise the Kraków visitors?
"The opponents were very well-trained technically, but under our pressing or high pressure, they often got lost, or we won the ball. It must be admitted that they surprised us a bit when it came to pressing when we opened the scoring, but we had already discussed all of this, and as you can see, it worked during the match."
The young White Star player and team captain capped his excellent performance with a goal. He says the goal brought him great joy and whetted his appetite for more goals.
"Honestly, at first I didn't even know if the goal would count because I was bordering on offside. However, I managed to avoid it. What emotions accompanied it? I was definitely very happy. This is my second goal, and I believe I'll score a few more before the end of the season."
The U-19 team has been performing very well in the Central Junior League since the start of the current season. Saturday's victory saw the Kraków team knock off the top spot from Legia Warsaw and they currently sit just off the podium, missing first place by just four points. According to the player, his successes are a source of motivation, but the most important thing is his commitment to work and training.
"We don't particularly care about results or standings. Of course, winning is nice because it's more enjoyable to come to training and it motivates us to work. On the other hand, the coach keeps telling us that we'll talk about standings at the end of the season. Now it's time to work."
