Duarte gives victory against Pogoń: #WISPGS 1:0
Wisła Kraków have added another set of points! The Kraków team showed excellent form in their match against Pogoń Siedlce in the 29th round of the Betclic I League, claiming a well-deserved victory, beating the visitors 1-0. Frederico Duarte scored the winning goal.
The first half of the match between Wisła Kraków and Pogoń Siedlce was dominated by the home side. Coach Mariusz Jop's men dictated their style of play from the outset, maintaining possession for longer periods and often causing problems for the opposition defense. A cross into the penalty area became dangerous in the fourth minute, when Baena headed the ball wide, but it went wide of the post. Moments later, in the fifth minute, Pogoń could have taken the lead, when Podliński found himself one-on-one with Letkiewicz. The Wisła goalkeeper made a superb save, saving a powerful shot. Wisła continued to attack and repeatedly attempted to surprise the visiting defense – Poletanović actively took set pieces, while Igbekeme and Duarte sought their luck with long-range shots. The 26th minute also saw a dangerous moment, when, following a long throw-in by Jaroch and a Uryga extension, Biedrzycki narrowly missed. Wisła's pressure finally paid off, however, when Frederico Duarte opened the scoring in the 39th minute. The Portuguese player found his footing in the penalty area after Poletanović's corner kick and scored with a precise shot between the legs of the Pogoń goalkeeper.
Complete domination of the hosts
After the break, Wisła returned to the pitch with even more intensity and quickly began to press their opponents. They dominated the midfield, effectively forcing Pogoń Siedlce into defense and barely letting them out of their own half for most of the second half. In the 49th minute, Poletanović tried to surprise the visiting goalkeeper with a free kick, but Lemanowicz easily saved. Wisła consistently searched for a second goal, creating threats from set pieces and on the wings. In the 58th minute, Rodado headed a cross, but again, the alert player between the posts was Pogoń's goalkeeper. Despite constant attacks, the home side lacked effectiveness. Alfaro missed in the 66th minute, and Rodado and Zwoliński also couldn't find a way past the well-disposed visiting goalkeeper. Zwoliński had the best chance in the 73rd minute after Duda's corner, but Lemanowicz managed to parry his header. Late in the match, Pogoń tried to turn the game around. They launched several attacks in stoppage time, but failed to seriously threaten Letkiewicz. Wisła had the final say – Kiss fired a shot after a counterattack, but it didn't find the back of the net.
