Blind Football: One Step Away from Defending the Title
Wisła Blind Football Kraków has taken several extremely important steps in Wrocław towards defending the championship title.
Wisła Blind Football Kraków has taken several crucial steps in Wrocław towards defending its championship title. In four matches of the second round of the PGF Blind Football League 2025, they have earned ten crucial points.
Last weekend, the capital of Lower Silesia was the scene of the local blind football league. Our players played four matches, which were bound to take their toll with a relatively short bench. However, the plan for the May round was executed almost perfectly.
"During preparations for the Wrocław round, we talked extensively and analyzed our situation and potential scenarios. The one in which we win three matches and draw with Śląsk was the "optimal" plan. Based on past experience, we are extremely pleased with our achievement, which brings us closer to defending the gold medal we won last year." – says Marcin Pajor, who performs with number 8.
Wisła kicked off their season with a match against Warta Poznań BF – the match against the "Greens" went surprisingly smoothly. Less than three minutes after kick-off, Mateusz Krzyszkowski, returning from injury, scored to make it 1-0, and then increased the score to 2-0 before halftime. After the break, Martin Jung scored a brace, his two goals separated by an own goal by the Poznań team.
"I'm very happy to be back on the pitch after a break that lasted since November. It seems that Marek, our physiotherapist, and I have managed this period well, and I was able to jump back into action at the perfect time, due to the squad shortages caused by the indisposition of several teammates. I hope the injury doesn't return, and that the form from the weekend continues." – adds Mateusz Krzyszkowski, who added another goal in the match against Bielsko.
Wisła BF played their second match against a team from Poland's capital, ARTS Warszawa BF, making their national debut in the 2024 Polish Cup. This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The match was dominated by Wisła BF, who regularly created chances. Martin Jung scored twice, and Gabriel Olech added a goal. The result could have been more impressive if not for the excellent performance of the capital city's goalkeeper.
"The plan for this and other Saturday matches was simple: secure a comfortable lead before halftime and switch to economy mode. It wasn't a matter of laziness, it was a matter of common sense. Everything went our way, apart from another injury that befell Martin early in the second half of the clash against Warsaw." – adds Marcin Ryszka, captain of Wisła BF.
The final match of Saturday's season could be described as a clash of intense physicality, a result of Rekord Bielsko-Biała BF's style of play. Given Sunday's blowout against Śląsk BF, this could have a significant impact on the final round. Coach Foryś decided not to include Jung, who was recovering from the match against ARTS Warszawa BF, so the remaining players shouldered the scoring burden left by the absent striker. Olech, Ryszka (from a free kick), and Krzyszkowski found the net in succession.
On Sunday, the White Star BF players had only one match to play – it was This was a match that could decide the fate of the gold medal. A potential victory against Śląsk Wrocław BF sealed their title defense, while a defeat complicated matters somewhat before the Kraków final round. The match ended in a goalless draw, which was more important than a victory for our section. The hosts set a rather fast pace, and Wisła BF seemed to be feeling the strain of the previous day, unable to impose their own style of play. To make matters worse, Kacper Domagała was injured in the first half of the match, and moments later, Adrian Słoninka delivered a surprising shot for both the defense and goalkeeper, giving Wrocław the lead. It was a slam dunk that further tangled Wisła's legs. After a break spent analyzing and discussing, however, everything changed – White Star BF regained their composure, and thanks to Gabriel Olech, they scored a goal to make it 1-1, further galvanizing the team. Although there were plenty of chances to take the lead, nothing changed.
"This is probably the most beautiful moment in my blind football adventure so far. I'm glad I managed to score a crucial goal for our team at such a crucial moment. After the match, we talked to the guys that such a comeback and such a result mattered more than a win. Our legs wouldn't carry us, our hearts had to," adds a satisfied Gabriel Olech, a key figure in Wisła BF's performance in the last round.
White Star BF currently has 16 points after six matches. The teams chasing them are Wrocław and Poznań, with Śląsk Wrocław having one match less. This means Wisła Kraków BF must earn a point in the September round to defend their league title.
Will this be the case? We deeply believe in this and are equally rooting for you to achieve this goal! Well done, team!
