Belgian Goal: #WISCER Preview
Tonight – August 22nd at 8:30 PM – the first whistle will sound in the fourth qualifying round match for the UEFA Conference League between Wisła Kraków and Belgian side Cercle Brugge. This will be one of the two final steps separating the White Star team from qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.
Wisła has closed the gap to the new league stage of the Conference League with just two matches remaining. Ultimately, however, qualifying won't be an easy task, as Cercle Brugge will stand in the way of the Kraków team's continued European competition. They are undoubtedly a formidable opponent, characterized by high intensity and aggressive tackling. The Belgian squad is composed primarily of young, dynamic players who thrive on fast, direct football.
Among the stars of Miron Muslić's team, Kévin Denkey is particularly noteworthy. The Togolese striker scored a staggering 27 goals in 38 appearances last season. His potential record-breaking transfer to a top club has been rumored in the media for some time now, but for now, he's still playing for the Kraków rivals. The visiting coach admitted at the pre-match press conference that, in his opinion, the most dangerous player in the R22 team also plays at number 9. Ángel Rodado has found the net at every stage of this year's qualifiers, and is also Wisła's top scorer in all competitions. Will the Spaniard find the back of the net again today?
Wisła Kraków's advantage could be the rising tide after their incredible comeback and ultimately dramatic penalty shootout victory against Spartak Trnava. Cercle Brugge, meanwhile, ended their Europa League campaign in poor fashion, losing 3-1 on aggregate to Norwegian side Molde FK. Monday's draw with Arka Gdynia further left coach Moskal's players feeling dissatisfied and angry about their sporting performance, which will hopefully help them secure a positive result this evening before the away return leg in Bruges. We'll find out soon enough!
