Blind Football: Time for the Polish Cup!
This weekend, Wisła Blind Football Kraków will be in Bielsko-Biała to defend the national cup they won last year. This year, eight teams will be competing for gold.
The 2025 Polish Blind Football Cup, scheduled for October 17-19, promises to be an incredibly exciting event. Bielsko-Biała will host blind football for the first time in history, and the rapidly approaching tournament presents a major unknown for coach Dominik Foryś's players.
A new city, a new facility, new rivals… Quite a few variables, and there won't be much time to adapt. The Polish Cup is a single tournament, a sprint with its own rules, and daily performances matter more than in a regular league season. It's also another tournament where we have to prove to ourselves and our opponents why we're the best again this year," says Krzysztof Spytkowski, the goalkeeper who is tasked with being the number one goalkeeper and orchestrating the defense in the absence of the seriously injured Krzysztof Bednarkiewicz.
Our section’s players were drawn into Group B, which also included the hosts, Rekord Bielsko-Biała Blind Football, Niezłomni Blind Football Zabrze (who played at a lower level last season) and the debuting club WIPS Lublin, whose ranks and coaching staff include many experienced names with a past in Śląsk Wrocław Blind Football.
"Everything will be accepted on paper, so we're not focusing on who theoretically has been handed to us, who is weaker, who is making their debut, who has more or less experience. We want to focus on practice, which is our strength, and we'll simply want to prove it. As Krzysiek mentioned, it's just one tournament, and we have to play it by our own rules, not let ourselves be surprised. The task will undoubtedly be more demanding due to the smaller goals, shorter playing time, and the number of matches we have to play in one day, but these conditions will be the same for everyone," emphasizes Rafał Kurlit, Wisła BF's second coach.
Wisła will begin their campaign with a match against WIPS Lublin, the biggest challenge of the competition, a mix of players with a history in Śląsk BF and absolute debutants who have yet to compete in competitive matches, at 10:00 a.m. At 2:00 p.m., White Star BF will host Niezłomni Zabrze BF, the last team from last season's lower division. At 6:00 p.m., they will face the hosts from Bielsko, coached by the current national team coach, who less than three weeks ago worked with three of our players and coach Kurlit during international competitions.
As mentioned, some interesting matchups are in store, especially against teams from Lublin and the hosts from Bielsko, who will undoubtedly do everything in their power to perform well in front of their home crowd during their tournament debut in their city. Neither I nor anyone on the team, however, is considering any scenario other than first place and a shot at gold. We respect our opponents, but we know our own worth and capabilities; playing in the final is simply our duty, even if we've been plagued by injuries and random events that have hampered our optimal performance for some time now," emphasizes Marcin Ryszka, captain of Biała Gwiazda BF.
The tournament will be held at the facility located in Bielsko at Startowa Street 13. We strongly encourage our club's supporters to support our section live or online (PZSN "Start" YouTube channel). More information about the upcoming tournament can be found on our section's social media profiles.
We can only wish you good luck in your fight for another golden brick, which will beautifully contribute to the construction of our common history!
