Promotion snatched: Siarka - Wisła 2:3
After a tense Polish Cup Round of 32 match between Siarka Tarnobrzeg and Wisła Kraków, the visitors emerged victorious, winning the match 3-2. Angel Rodado, Łukasz Zwoliński, and captain Alan Uryga scored the goals for the White Star.
Wisła got off to a lightning-fast start. Just seconds after the first whistle, Baena surged forward through midfield and, with a well-timed save, won a free kick. Despite the close range, the shot remained unscored, and the match began in earnest.
There was a lot of aerial combat, and Anton Chichkan twice cleared up Siarka's promising scoring opportunities in the opening minutes. After fifteen minutes, the White Star set a higher tempo and confined Siarka to their own half. Sukiennicki had a great opportunity to open the scoring in the 17th minute. After a nice exchange of passes in tight spaces, our youngster tested Mateusz Białka's ability. However, the angle of the shot was too acute and couldn't have surprised the goalkeeper.
Moments later, many fans could already picture the ball in the net. Uryga joined the attack, and with the opposition's defense reacting late, they found themselves one-on-one. Białka intuitively saved the Tarnobrzeg team from conceding again, emerging as the hero of the match. Angel Rodado finally confirmed Wisła's apparent advantage in the 36th minute with a goal to make it 1-0. Forced into their own penalty area, Siarka Tarnobrzeg capitulated after a scramble that ended with a skillful half-turn from the Spanish striker. Mariusz Jop's men should play better from now on, as the hosts will have to open up and look for an equalizer. The score remained unchanged until the end of the half, and we awaited more excitement after the break.
Don't lose concentration
The second half began with a quick exchange of blows between the two teams. Initially, Łukasz Zwoliński's finishing shot increased Wisła's lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute. However, Siarka's players didn't give up, and just a minute later, thanks to a precise shot from Dawid Lisowski, they made it 1-2. The ball bounced off the post, eventually ending up in the goal, giving the Yellows the impetus to chase a draw.
Now it was up to the Kraków side to demonstrate defensive maturity and cope with the hosts' relentless pressure. The hosts showed real strength after the break, rewarding themselves with a 2-2 equalizer in the 68th minute. Japan's Kosei Iwao delivered a flawless finish, leaving Chichkan no chance.
Unfortunately, the defending champions' troubles didn't end there, as Wiktor Biedrzycki received a second yellow card—and consequently, a red card—in the 71st minute. The weakened Wisła Kraków side had to quickly get back into the game and stave off their nervousness. The stadium was brimming with excitement. Each side had a chance to tip the scales in their favor late in the match. Ultimately, Alan Uryga scored with a header in the 89th minute, securing the winning goal and advancing to the next round. At the crucial moment, the captain managed to do what the Siarka goalkeeper had prevented him from doing in the first half. Wisła Kraków avoided extra time and is now in the round of 16 of the Polish Cup!
